Help With Hay Fever…..please!?
Posted by: Alan in Hay Fever, tags: Fever.....please, Help, With
I am suffering terrible hay fever.
It has lasted for weeks now.
I am taking antihistamines, and have tried eye drops and nasal sprays.
I feel so over medicated, and still not much relief from my running nose and VERY ITCHY eyes.
It is so bad I came home from a run yesterday with hives!
ANY suggestions?
Anything natural that helps?
ANYTHING AT ALL??

Here is something to bring you quick relief, but you can’t do it routinely.
Get some niacin tablets. Take 200mg of niacin, preferably on an empty stomach, as it will work faster. Don’t take niacinamide instead, as it does not work for this.
If you are already taking a significant dose of niacin (say, 100mg/day) you will need to increase the dosage,as you will be used to it.
At some point after taking the niacin, you will flush red all over your body, your skin will feel hot and itchy. You will also experience an increased sense of humor, probably! The flush will fade in a few minutes, and your allergy symptoms will be pretty much gone. No runny nose or itchy eyes. The niacin flush happens because it makes the body release all its histamines at once. Afterward, it takes a while to build up enough to get allergy symptoms again. When I’ve done this, I feel better for days.
The reason that you can’t do this routinely is that, if you take a large dose of niacin every day, the body gets used to it and doesn’t flush anymore. Of course, you could get a flush by increasing the dosage.
Niacin is water soluble, and excess niacin in the body goes out in the urine; it doesn’t get stored in your body. So it doesn’t have any long term affects.

The best remedy I found is berberis prunus sinus and hayfever drops from a health food store, and recommended by a homeopath. You can take 15 drops every two hours at first (on a plastic spoon or from a cup as metal taints it), and reduce it as you get better. Also Quercertin is great for hayfever, and triple strength garlic and horseradish tablets will clear your nose.

Firstly, find whatever you are allergic to and don’t go near it at all, at all.
Also, are you sure you are using the nasal steroid correctly? The correct form is to bend your head forward and shoot up making sure not to swallow the medication. These are very effective usually in treatment of allergic rhinitis.
The next step if those things don’t work would be to go on systemic steroids – not pleasant at all.
Good luck, allergies suck!

I have tried some natural remedies, but they did not do me much good. I recommend that you go to your doctor and get a prescription for a steroidal nasal spray. It can take up to five days to start working, but it does a great job. Beconase AQ or Nasonex work well.

Before going out for your run, take the medication 30 min prior. You might need to wear a mask of some sort, or sunglasses.
