I Have An 8 Month Old With Hay Fever What Medication Can I Give Her?
Posted by: Alan in Hay Fever, tags: Fever, Give, Have, Medication, Month, What, With
Its pretty rare for babies to get hay fever but its not impossible. If you are sure then go back to your doctor because there are eyedrops available that can relieve symptoms. Poor baby i have suffered for years and its very unpleasant, wash her bedding regularly, keep doors and windows closed at night and if poss keep your babies bedroom window closed all the time. Try and avoid going out in the morning and evening as this is when the pollen count is highest. If you do go out then change her clothes when you arrive back home. If you have pets then this can make her allergy worse so try keep her away from them and if you can then keep them from the family room. I find a damp cold flannel wiped over my face and gently over my eyes very soothing, or if i am really suffering a bath and washing my hair really helps. I really feel for her, good luck xx P.s Its not safe to give babies under 1 year honey because of the risk of botulism.

She should be able to handle Benedryl. Just call your doc. or pharmacist before giving her any! You might also ask about Triaminic.

I heard that being in an airconditioned room is supposed to relieve hayfever.

Be sure to check with your doctor. I believe that weather related allergies don’t start until a baby is older — this is what I read when I was researching my 7 month old’s cold. I wouldn’t give my baby anything OTC unless your child’s doctor advises it. Also, staying indoors with windows and doors closed should help alleviate symptoms, in the event that this is an allergy. Good luck.

with a 8 month old your best advice is to see the child’s doctor to get the correct medication safe for the child to take

she might be able to take a small dose of liquid Benadryl, but I’d ask your doctor first. they also make liquid Zyrtec for children b/c my nephew was on it when he was 1. you have to have a scrip for that, though.

See your pharmacist, he should be able to help. If not then talk to your doctor.

First of all get a Doctors advice, or Health Visitor, at least if you’re in the UK. Maybe a herbal remedy, but still seek advice.
I also heard that if you use the ‘local honey’, because of its production by the bees in the area, it could have a good effect.
Good Luck.

“Scoop’s” answer the best for this question up to now…overall, quite a nice job of getting to the major points…
Bottom line: Anti-histamines ARE safe and effective if needed for a child — the allergy (if truly present) can only be to a perennial environmental allergen this young (i.e., danders, house dust mites, molds), as there has to be TWO pollen seasons lived through (one to get “sensitized” and the 2nd to become “hypersensitive” or “allergic!”) and this child is just 8 months of age.
Zyrtec is approved down to 6 months of age and is effective 1-2x/day if necessary. Benadryl is an old stand-by of course, but is much more highly sedating (but delivers poor sleep cycles which do not give restoritive sleep–which is why it should NEVER be given for its sedating SIDE EFFECT — plus is very drying!!).
GOOD LUCK!!!
